Every blog has a purpose, and they must have readers to assist in the fulfillment of that purpose. Sekel is no exception. I really hope that you are being blessed by the personal insights from God’s precious Word and my experiences as a believer that I write about on this site.
The first thing most people notice about my blog is the name: The term Sekel is actually a Hebrew word that means “prudence, insight, understanding” and is pronounced seh’-kel.
The focus of this website is mainly derived from several verses:
“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.”
– 1 Timothy 4:12-13
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
– Hebrews 4:12
“[The Lord your God] humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.”
– Deuteronomy 8:3
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
– 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
– Proverbs 9:10
And one passage:
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.”
– Psalm 1

So, just a few things to clear up as you peruse my site.
First off, I write a lot of reviews, mostly for books and publishers, but also some conferences and other resources as well. I do NOT necessarily agree with everything I review. I usually only agree with some of what is taught through the reviewed item., unless I state otherwise. I am certainly not obliged to write a review for them either, much less a positive one. The reviews I write are of my own accord and give my personal opinion on the reviewed item, whether negative or positive. If it’s bad altogether, I will not waste my time writing a review for it.
Second, you may notice my extensive links. I support many of the ministries I’ve listed, however not financially. Again, I do not necessarily agree with everything they do but they have earned my respect well enough. Also, in my ‘Blogroll’ there are multiple blogs listed. Now, these are run by people who do not necessarily have proper training in ministry, theology, or whatever topics they cover in their blogs, and the same goes for me. Because of this, I strongly encourage visitors to those sites to use their own conscience and discretion whenever they read or accept whatever is written on those blogs. I agree with a lot of what they write, but that does not mean I endorse it fully and agree blindly with everything they say; I still make sure to hold it to the Word for it to pass the test.
I’m sorry if my rules sound strict, but I value the moral and spiritual safety of my visitors and have taken these measures to do what I can to help.
That said, please peruse as you please. =)
